Discussion about funding the final development of Fry.watch, an Algorand-based blockchain explorer for onboarding users and providing redundancy

Proposal Title: Funding Fry.watch Explorer Development for Algorand Ecosystem

Objective:
This proposal seeks funding to complete the final development of Fry.watch, a blockchain explorer for Algorand, with functionalities similar to Etherscan or Polygonscan. The goal is to onboard new users into the Algorand ecosystem and provide redundancy in case existing explorers like allo.info or Pera explorer are down.

Scope:

  • Fry.watch Features: Address lookups, transaction history, contract and asset interactions, and network analytics.
  • Figma Pages: Completion: Finalizing the UI/UX design for a user-friendly interface.
  • Explorer Redundancy: Ensuring users can always access the Algorand blockchain through Fry.watch if other explorers are unavailable.

Justification:

  • Onboarding Users: Simplifying access to Algorand for newcomers by providing a reliable and intuitive explorer.
  • Redundancy: Strengthening the Algorand ecosystem by adding another blockchain explorer, reducing dependence on existing services.

Requested Funding: 250,000 ALGO

  • Development: 180,000 ALGO
  • Testing & Auditing: 40,000 ALGO
  • Marketing & Engagement: 30,000 ALGO

Timeline:

  • Month 1: Complete Figma designs.
  • Month 2-3: Integrate Algorand blockchain data.
  • Month 4: Testing and security audits.
  • Month 5: Launch Fry.watch explorer publicly.

Deliverables:

  1. Full Fry.watch Explorer with address/transaction lookups.
  2. Finalized Figma pages and UI/UX design.
  3. Public release and community engagement.

Please provide your feedback, questions, and suggestions to help improve this proposal!

Hi @atormonkey, thanks for your proposal. To clarify, when xGov relaunches it will focus on funding retroactive open-source builds.

Hi thank you for the reply. Can you please elaborate on what would entitle? If we make the project open-source, would that qualify? Thank you

Yes, open source will be one of the requirements.
We will release the full documentation ahead of the new platform launch.

With both Lora and Algorand Observer being open sourced (and several other options such as Allo, Blockstalker, and Bitquery also running), I do not see the justification for spending to develop another explorer (which would require even more funding to keep running). We have enough options, including open source ones. Developing another one adds little value.
