Proposal for Enhancing Community Engagement through Decentralized Governance Education

Introduction:
The Algorand ecosystem has seen remarkable growth, driven by its innovative technology and commitment to decentralization. However, to fully realize the potential of Algorand’s governance model, I propose an initiative aimed at increasing community participation by providing accessible education on decentralized governance and its benefits.

Objective:
To empower Algorand users—both new and experienced—with the knowledge and tools needed to actively participate in governance, thereby strengthening the ecosystem’s decentralization and fostering a more engaged community.

Proposal Details:

  1. Educational Campaign:

    • Launch a series of short, digestible video tutorials and written guides explaining how Algorand’s governance works, including staking, voting, and proposal submission.
    • Topics could include: “What is Governance?”, “How to Stake ALGO”, and “Crafting Effective Proposals”.
    • Materials should be available in multiple languages to reach a global audience.
  2. Interactive Workshops:

    • Host monthly live Q&A sessions or webinars with Algorand Foundation team members or community leaders to answer questions about governance.
    • Use platforms like Discord or Zoom to make these accessible and interactive.
  3. Incentive Program:

    • Introduce a “Governance Learner” reward system where participants who complete educational modules or attend workshops earn small ALGO rewards or exclusive NFTs.
    • This could encourage new users to get involved and reward active community members.
  4. Integration with Pera Wallet:

    • Add a “Learn Governance” section to the Pera Wallet app, linking to the educational content and providing step-by-step guidance for first-time voters.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Increased participation in governance voting periods.
  • A more informed community capable of submitting high-quality proposals.
  • Greater trust and transparency in the Algorand ecosystem as users understand their role in shaping its future.

Budget Considerations:

  • Content creation (videos, guides): Partner with community creators or allocate ~50,000 ALGO for production.
  • Rewards: Allocate a modest pool (e.g., 100,000 ALGO) for the incentive program, distributed over 6 months.
  • Workshops: Leverage existing platforms and volunteers to minimize costs.

Call to Action:
I’d love to hear the community’s feedback on this idea! Do you think this could help onboard more governors? Are there other topics or features you’d like included? Let’s discuss and refine this together to make Algorand’s governance truly community-driven.

Hi @filippodotalgo, thanks for your proposal.

With all the changes in Governance this year, we are reviewing all governance documentation and updating the governor’s guide. We are hoping to have these completed by the start of Q3. If you decide to produce these short videos, I’d suggest you wait until this review is complete and the information is up to date.

The new xGov framework will kick off accepting applications for retroactive grants for open-source code projects.

Proposals for educational content would be outside the xGov grants scope.
